Business gas bills: standing charge, units and what moves them

The same simple structure as electricity, with a few differences worth knowing.

A business gas bill usually shows a standing charge, a unit rate per kWh and VAT, plus other charges depending on your contract. Gas usage tends to follow the weather and your opening hours.

What to check

  • Meter readings against estimates.
  • The unit rate and when the current rate ends.
  • Whether your usage pattern has changed since you signed.

Seasonal businesses should look closely at how a contract treats low-usage months. General guide only.
